About the lab

Welcome to Dr. Mostafa Borahay's lab at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins University.

Uterine fibroids impact up to 8 out of 10 women with a huge medical, emotional and financial burden. Our lab works with one goal: to help affected women through innovative research that translates through clinical trials into clinical practice.

  • Our lab focuses on development of novel therapeutics for uterine fibroids and endometriosis and understanding the biological processes leading to development of uterine fibroids

  • Our program integrates cellular, molecular, animal, epidemiologic and clinical studies

  • Current projects include:

    • Mechanisms of simvastatin action in uterine fibroids

    • Mechanotransduction in uterine fibroid

    • Sex steroids signaling in uterine fibroids

    • Role of stem cells in uterine fibroids development

    • Interaction between different uterine layers in health and disease

  • Our lab is funded, in part, through an NIH Grant. Additional information here.
